According to the Automotive Science Group, the 2019 Nissan Kicks and 3 other vehicles from the automaker offer award-winning bang for your long-term buck.

Prospective car buyers just got another reason to pick up a new Nissan. While most of the cost of a new vehicle comes up front at the time of purchase, maintenance and repairs can add up tremendously over time.
Thankfully, Nissan vehicles are some of the cheapest to own over-time, according to a new study. The Automotive Science Group recently published their findings for 2019 and found that four Nissan vehicles lead their class in lowest cost of ownership.
In a press release from Nissan, the carmaker celebrated the news that four of their vehicles had “the lowest cost of ownership when considering purchase and operating costs across the first 6.5 years of (their) lifecycle.” The Automotive Science Group looked at that time period as well as the first 87,594 miles, which is the estimated average time and mileage traveled by a new car buyer.
Nissan Kicks Out the Competition
The 2019 Nissan Kicks
First on the list was the 2019 Nissan Kicks. The compact crossover won “Best Economic Performance” in its segment.
The Kicks sported an impressive 36% lower total of ownership and operating costs than the average compact crossover. This means that the 2019 Nissan Kicks is over a third cheaper long-term than the average competing vehicle from a group of over 100 model variants.
Described by Nissan as “designed to fit the needs of singles or couples,” the 2019 Nissan Kicks sports expressive styling alongside smart functionality and state-of-the-art personal technology. Throw in advanced safety features and an affordable price, and the Kicks is a steal even before long-term costs are factored in.
According to Nissan, the Kicks “embodies Nissan Intelligent Mobility,” the automaker’s new safety and technology framework. The compact crossover features standard Automatic Emergency Braking as well as available tech tricks such as an Intelligent Around View Monitor, Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
The 2019 Nissan Rogue
Going Rogue
Next on the list of winners was the 2019 Nissan Rogue. The mid-size SUV crushed the competition, winning “Best Economic Performance” for its segment as well.
In a field of 184 similar vehicles, the Rogue achieved victory in part due to features such as an impressive fuel efficiency. “With average fuel economy of 29 mpg combined – compared to a segment average of 22 mpg combined – Rogue offers a large economic and environmental performance gains over the competition,” the Automotive Science Group reported.
According to the Nissan press release, the 2019 Nissan Rogue comes in three flavors – S, SV and SL. Regardless of trim, the Rogue merges compact overall size with a surprisingly-spacious interior for an award-winning combination.
Other highlights of the Rogue include wide opening doors that make getting in the back seat a breeze, thanks to the 77 degrees of movement that dwarf that of many competing SUVs. An available Motion-Activated Liftgate makes loading up the trunk much easier, coming standard on the SV and SL trims.
With an award-winning combination of ease of use, comfort, spaciousness and low operating costs, the 2019 Nissan Rogue is “the perfect vehicle for everyday use and family adventure getaways.”
Turning Over a New LEAF

Nissan’s electric superstar made a strong showing as well. The 2019 Nissan LEAF placed in the “Best 5 All-Around Performance” category for the mid-large size car segment. The LEAF competed against a dizzying 434 other model variants.
The “Best 5 All-Around Performance” winners are cars that achieve the highest combined performance ratings among social, environmental and economic categories in one of two categories: small and mid-large sized cars. The LEAF took one of these top five positions for the mid-large car segment.
Such a prestigious placement for an essentially brand-new vehicle is quite a feat. Only releasing last year, the Leaf excelled beyond expectations.
Nissan’s press release stated that the 2019 Nissan Leaf has been further improved and continues to exemplify the Nissan Intelligent Mobility design. “With its dynamic design and advanced technologies such as ProPILOT Assist and ePedal, Nissan LEAF continues to be the best-selling 100-percent electric vehicle in the world.”
The 2019 Nissan Versa

Last but certainly not least on the list is the 2019 Nissan Versa. The subcompact car competed against 335 model variants to take home a “Top 5 All-Around Performance” placement for the small car segment.
Nissan described the Versa as a compromise between small-size stature and mid-size features. “The 2019 Nissan Versa offers high value, exceptional roominess and mid-size vehicle technology without a mid-size price.” The 2019 Nissan Versa comes in your choice of S, S Plus or SV trim models.
The inexpensive car sports standard features such as a Rearview Monitor for increased safety. A low cost does not mean low tech, with a 7.0-inch color touchscreen as well as Bluetooth audio streaming via Siri Eyes Free, NissanConnect, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
