The 2019 Nissan Rogue, one of the best-selling crossover SUVs in America, is here with some fresh new updates. After losing the top spot for 2018 crossovers sales in North America by a hair’s width, sales have soared in the first quarter. Digital Trends had the chance to review the Rogue, saying that it “offers a quality compact crossover SUV at a fair price.” Here’s why Jeff Zurschmeide gave the 2019 Nissan Rogue a Recommended Product Award.
Good Product, Good Value
Digital Trends’ review began by covering the basics of the updated 2019 Nissan Rogue. The review site described the Rogue as “perfect for active singles, road trip-loving couples, or for growing families.” The inclusion of active safety features and smartphone integration on even the most basic trim was welcomed. With room for five and towing power up to 1,100 pounds, the Nissan Rogue can tackle many challenges.
Digital Trends tackled the trim options, stating that the 2019 Nissan Rogue comes in three variants. The Rogue begins with the S model, which the car site described as the “base” version.
Next up is the SV, described as the “family” edition. According to Digital Trends, the SV comes with automatic reverse braking, motion-controlled liftgate, heated front seats and a remote engine starter with climate control.
The cream of the crop is the SL model. Described as the “luxury” level, the SL offers ProPilot Assist, a surround-view camera, on-board navigation, upgraded leather materials and more.
Digital Trends pointed out that all Rogues are available in either front- or all-wheel drive. The SV and SL can choose from an all-gas or gasoline-electric hybrid drivetrain.
On the lowest end, the review site said that most barebones version of the 2019 Nissan Rogue goes for $25,965 with all fees included. Going all-out, the Nissan Rogue SL Hybrid can be had for $$33, 935; an available Bose stereo and panoramic moonroof can be added for another $2000.

Inside Out
Described by Digital Trends as “all business,” Digital Trends enjoyed the interior of the 2019 Nissan Rogue. The review site appreciated the “nicely executed” design, especially the leather center console, dashboard and steering wheel on the SV and SL trims. The piano black trim surrounding the center console was another strong point, described as “giving the cabin a sense of understated quality not usually found at this price point.”
The Rogue features a 7.0-inch touchscreen system that can be operated using NissanConnect, Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. The review site praised the inclusion of physical climate controls that made changing the temperature a breeze.
The 2019 Nissan Rogue has cargo capacity aplenty, with 39.3 cubic feet behind the second row seats, near the top of class. That number can go up to 70 if the rear seats are folded down. Digital Trends did not that the hybrid version will cut capacity down to 27.3 cubic feet in the trunk and 61.4 with seats down.
That spacious cargo room is partly due to the 2019 Nissan Rogue’s continued functional form. Digital Trends described the outer look as “better looking than most” and praised Nissan’s resistance to sportier, sleeker looks that would cut down on carrying capacity.
Talking Tech
One of the biggest areas where the 2019 Nissan Rogue stands out from the competition is technology. As Digital Trends noted, “Nissan is leading the economy crossover class when it comes to available driver assistance technology.” The review site praised the inclusion of safety measures such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and sonar-based rear automatic braking. Information systems were also a big hit with the reviewer, particularly the 360-degree camera system and lane departure assist.
Nissan’s biggest innovation in this area, the ProPilot Assist system, is present in the 2019 Nissan Rogue. Thanks to ProPilot Assist, a light level of self-driving is present. Self-centering in lanes is a big boon for the Rogue, especially when such features tend to be out of reach for competitors.

Rogue on the Road
The 2019 Nissan Rogue is powered by a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine, regardless of trim. The Rogue features a continuously variable transmission, or CVT. Digital Trends noted that Nissan jumped into this technology earlier than most automakers. This experience let them iron out the bumps that many rival CVTs still have.
The review site praised the smoothness of the Rogue’s CVT. “The rubber band-like acceleration we’ve encountered in many cars equipped with a CVT is nowhere to be found in the Rogue.”
Digital Trends appreciated the inclusion of ProPilot Assist. Noting that it takes some time to get used to, the review site said that ultimately “ProPilot makes long stretches of freeway a little easier to manage.”
A stable suspension keeps the 2019 Nissan Rogue smooth and secure. Digital Trends said that it made the Rogue “a pleasant SUV to drive around town and on the highway.”
Hybrid vs. All-Gas
Fuel economy on the all-gas 2019 Nissan Rogue comes in at 26 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. The hybrid option takes those numbers to 33 mpg city and 35 mpg when equipped with front-wheel-drive.
The Rogue’s all-gas version features 170 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. The hybrid variant is capable of 176 total system horsepower and 144 pound-feet of torque.
Pricing for the hybrid depends on the trim. For just $150 extra, the SL trim can be upgraded to a hybrid engine for a bargain rate. The SV trim’s hybrid cost comes in higher at $1,260.
