Winner winner, chicken dinner! The J.D. Power 2019 U.S. Initial Quality Study loved Nissan’s fleet, especially the 2019 Nissan Titan and Maxima.

Any doubts you may have about the quality of Nissan’s cars, trucks and SUVs are a thing of the past. In a major win for the automaker, the J.D. Power 2019 U.S. Initial Quality Study awarded high placement for many of Nissan’s vehicles.
The 2019 Nissan TITAN and 2019 Nissan Maxima both took home the trophy for their respective categories. Not to be left out, the Frontier, Versa, Murano and Rogue all placed in the top 3 for their own categories.

2019 Nissan Titan
TITAN-ic Victory
The 2019 Nissan TITAN was the hero of the hour. The full-size pickup brough two big honors to Nissan. First, it won first place for the “Large Light Duty Pickup” segment with just 66 problems per 100 vehicles, or PPH. It also tied for seventh place in fewest overall problems among the staggering 257 vehicles in the study, a major testament to the TITAN’s tenacity.
Manufactured in Canton, Mississippi, this American-made truck brings the reliability, power and price tag Americans need. With a 5.6-liter Endurance V8 gasoline engine and a 7-speed automatic transmission, the TITAN brings 390 horsepower to bear. The 2019 Nissan Titan has a starting MSRP of $36,680.
Maxima and More Score Big
2019 Nissan Maxima
The top truck wasn’t the only Nissan automobile to make a strong showing. Top place for the “Large Car” category also went to automaker, with the 2019 Nissan Maxima taking the lead. The Maxima scored just 76 PPH. Sleek and sophisticated, the Maxima features a 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 engine under the hood. With a starting MSRP of $34,050, this reliable 4-door sports car is just the kind of car cash-conscious customers can celebrate.
High placement also went to several other Nissan vehicles. The 2019 Nissan Frontier took second place in the “Midsize Pickup” category, sitting at 95 PPH. The automaker also went three for third, with the 2019 Nissan Versa, 2019 Nissan Murano and 2019 Nissan Rogue coming in their for their respective categories. The Versa scored 94 PPH, alongside a tied 78 PPH for the Murano and tied 81 PPH for the Rogue.
Nissan Narrows the Gap
For their initial quality study, JD Power looks at the number of issues experienced per 100 vehicles during the first 90 days of ownership. A lower PPH (problems per hundred vehicles) means a vehicle is very reliably, and Nissan’s lineup scored some of the lowest PPH in the market.
Nissan as a whole did very well, with no Nissan vehicle scoring above 100 PPH. According to their press release, the automaker scored higher than the industry average for the fourth consecutive year. Nissan went up one rung of the ladder to fifth place for 2019. This placement now makes Nissan the highest-performing automaker from Japan. All the hard work Nissan has done to improve their reliability looks to be paying off, with the company improving 35 PPH since 2015.

Power U.S. Initial Quality Study over the past several years, and it is especially good to see TITAN and Maxima win their IQS categories for 2019,” Nissan’s press release quoted Heath Holtz, senior vice president, manufacturing, supply chain management and purchasing, Nissan North America, Inc. “Initial quality is one important metric for our manufacturing team’s performance, but the pursuit of excellence across the Nissan lineup never stops.”
